Six years after buying the domain..
A site along the same lines as this one has been in the pipeline for 6 years now; I first bought this domain back in 2004 for pretty much no reason other than the fact it was my initials and I've done absolutely nothing with it since due to reasons that have changed year on year - mostly time constraints/other projects getting in the way.
And so here it finally is with a design I'll probably like for about a week before wanting to change but it does mean I can start writing about certain topics that have been on my mind for a while and generally use this as a place to dump the stuff I may need again in the future.
The development
As this project was entirely for myself I had the chance to be completely reckless and play with a few new technologies that I'd been meaning to get my head around including the CSS compiler Sass and it's newer .scss syntax; the as-yet unfinished HTML5 spec; the new Django 1.3 trunk with its class-based generic views and proper static file separation; and nginx as a reverse-proxy in-front of Apache (once fully deployed).
Sass has turned out to be one the finest tools I've used in a long time; it truly makes designing solely with mark-up and CSS fun again - so much so that I completely skipped the prolonged Photoshop design phase that I usually go through (which was a great time saver as it's not something I use day-in-day-out any more) and went straight to the mark-up and styling.
nginx is another great application I've starting using more recently - I won't go about that here though - they'll be a long post about my recent nginx caching work with Fauna & Flora very shortly.
I don't want to ramble on; they'll be longer posts about specifics of this site in the future. For now, I need to get back to adding all that content...and I'm no copy writer.
